Salt-Cellar, Qianlong (1736-1795)


 A Chinese export porcelain salt-cellar, East India Company, Qianlong Period (1736-1795). Glazed blue and gilt decoration. Presents an European coat-of-arms with red background on which hangs a motto where we can read: Cassis Tutissima Virtus (Virtue is the safest helmet). 
In the upper part of the shield, a zoomorphic figure holds with its claws a helmet that indicates that this coat-of-arms belongs to a noble family.
